Location: In Oriental Mindoro province, at the northern tip of Mindoro, about 130 km (80 miles) south of Manila.

Climate: There is no distinct dry season, with rain likely at any time of the year, However, April-May is usually the driest period. Temperatures are usually over 30C (86F), although sea breezes can make night time quite cool, especially in January. Humidity is always high, usually about 80%.

When to go: It is possible to dive on the reefs at any of year, although March-October is thought to be the best period.

Access: Bus from Manila to Batangas (three hours), and then a ferry to Puerto Galera (1-2) hours depending on a type of ferry) Take a boat, tricycle or jeepney from the Puerto Galera wharf to the beach of choice.

Permits: Not needed.

Equipment: Swimming costume, sunglasses, sunblock, camera. All diving and snorkeling equipment can be hired, but divers can bring their own if they prefer.

Facilities: Puerto Nirvana Beach Resort is located at the town proper of Puerto galera just five minutes from the port and accessible to all islands and dive sites. Most run a range of diving courses from novice to instructor level. Plenty of boats for hire, for diving, snorkeling, swimming or just touring.

Wath wildlife: The underwater world teems with life, from a vast array of corals to a diversity of fish. Butterflyfish, Moorish Idols, sweetlips and soldierfish are al common. Huge barrel sponges are found at some of the dive sites.
